At Home. Together.

Meetings have been fun & interesting

Last week, we heard from Senator Diane in PEI – she talked about Food Security concerns, the Canadian senate and house of commons and gave us a unique perspective from the East. We also compared notes about our tourism economies and what the world may look like in 6 months.

Before that, our meeting was connected to Mexico to hear about Project Amigo, supporting education. Barry and Diane had first-hand experience with this incredible organization, and our club has committed $5000 towards a grant that will help Elly do their great work.

Coming Up

This week, please join our Zoom club meeting (PJ pants accepted) to hear from Jonas, our most recent recipient of a grant to attend Encounters With Canada. He chose the Global Affairs topic, and will have many great insights to share. He is also a Parkour Instructor and can give us some fun pointers for turning our own small spaces into adventure playgrounds. As you know, meetings are each Thursday at noon.

We look forward to raising a glass with you on Wednesday at Rotary Happy Hour – this casual Zoom get-together will be happening every other week at 5pm and all are welcome to pop in.

The Stay at Home Gala on May 2 supports the Community Foundation of Whistler, and includes entertainment and inspiration from across Canada and from within Whistler. Ticket sales entirely support our local charity.

Club Members: Share your thoughts

Please take 10 minutes to think about the 2019-20 Rotary year so far and our club. We have a brief club survey and the results can help us determine future directions. Whether you are very involved or have been wrapped up in the many other facets of your life, your responses are very important so that we can see the complete picture – please complete the survey.

We are also tracking all of the volunteer hours and donations that are contributed to support our projects and fundraisers – please see the PROJECTS tracking sheet within the lunch registration, and make any corrections needed.

As we begin to look ahead at the next Rotary Year (starting in July 2020), we are looking to fill the board positions of  President Elect (to be President beginning July 2021) and Public Relations Chair. If you have questions about these positions, or any of the committees in the club, please ask any board member.

Youth Programs

We are sad that this year’s Youth Exchange experiences have ended but are excited to say that our Interact Club had their first Zoom meeting.

We are also happy to have supported the First Nations Snowboard Team, helping them with some of their expenses this year, and look forward to ongoing partnerships.
